Brown County REA is excited to again offer one lucky high school student the chance for a free trip to Washington, D.C. as part of the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.
Brown County REA is looking for one student to represent the cooperative and participate in a week-long, all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. June 13-18, 2023. Youth Tour is much more than a sightseeing trip. While in D.C. participants have a chance to meet with their elected officials and discuss issues that are important both nationally and in Minnesota. Students return home with a deeper understanding and skillset of what it takes to be a leader and can put those skills to use in their local community. They also learn about the cooperative business model, visit numerous museums and memorials and gain a new appreciation of our nation's history. In the process, many new friendships are created as they spend the week with 40 other young people from electric cooperatives throughout Minnesota.
The 2023 Youth Tour is open to current high school sophomores and juniors whose parents/guardians are Brown County Rural Electrical Association (REA) members (they buy their electricity from us). Interested students are asked to write a 300-500 word essay on electricity or any energy-related topic. Submit the essay, along with the application form to Brown County REA before the March 3, 2023 deadline. Finalists will be interviewed and a winner selected in mid-March.
